SVSU Partnerships
Provider Programs:Program providers are companies that work with SVSU to send students abroad. They help to coordinate the logistics for students by providing students with on-site orientations, finding housing for the students on the program, registering students for the courses abroad, providing in-country support and cultural activities and trips, and more. Some of the providers SVSU works with include ISA, Panrimo, GlobaLinks, CISabroad, ASA, API, AHA, Classport, and more.
Exchange Programs
SVSU has relationships with many universities and institutions overseas. Many of these relationships allow the exhange of students between universities, meaning SVSU students can go and study at one of the institutions for a semester. In most cases, students are living on campus and studying alongside local students. These programs tend to be the most affordable type of program, given that students typically pay SVSU tuition and housing rates or less in order to participate in the program.
How long? Full semester (~15 weeks)
When? Fall and Winter terms
Where? France (summer program), Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, and more!
What can you study? Almost any major offered on campus (International studies, business, foreign languages, communication, history, art, literature are all great examples of courses you can take as part of an exchange program!)
Direct Enroll Programs
Students have the option of enrolling directly into a foreign institution. Students interested in this option should consult with a study abroad advisor. SVSU has current relationships with the following universities that allow students to enroll directly at their insitution for a semester program:
Edge Hill University (England)
Vesalius University (Belgium)
Applying for a Semester-long or Spring/Summer program (non-faculty-led)
If you are applying for a semester-long or spring/summer program (through a provider or an exchange school), the application is a multiple-step process.
You must first submit an application using this site. Find your program of choice on the program search database and click the "Apply Now" button. Log on to the system using your SVSU e-mail address.
Once you have successfully logged on to the system, you must complete all of the material submissions and questionnaires before your application will be reviewed. This serves as your application to the SVSU study abroad program. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. You will receive an e-mail notification indicating your acceptance status once your application has been reviewed.
Once you have applied using the SVSU site, you must then apply to the provider or exchange program you wish to participate in. Many of these applications can be done online through the provider website. A few of the program applications are paper-based (if this is the case, the Study Abroad Office will, upon request, send your completed application to the appropriate address for you).
The Study Abroad Office will request and send your SVSU transcript to your program once you have successfully completed both applications.
If you need any other documents signed and sent by an advisor or other personnel at the university, please bring them to the Study Abroad Office and allow at least one week for these documents to be completed and sent.
Contact the Study Abroad Office (studyabroad@svsu.edu) for additional assitance or questions about the semester-long and spring/summer program application process.
